hirschberg hooped glass vases from a new york city jaunt

On my last self-indulgent junket to New York City, I stopped by my very favorite glass store, The End of History. I can't help myself. The shop is absolutely incredible. All the glass is organized NOT by manufacturer or country of origin BUT by color.

From the Robb Report, Great Find, The End of History.
Honestly, it is a cacophony of colors, shapes and sizes. In only the best way.

At this point, the owner Stephen Saunders, recognizes me and my friend. and greats us both very warmly. I feel very NYC. It is the coolest feeling in the world to be recognized as a great glass lover, in the coolest glass shop in the world.

Stephen's passion is mid-century glass and he collects it from all over the world. I have written about my visits a number of times. Picking out my annual souvenier is one of the trip highlights. Luckily I have always caught Stephen in the shop and he patiently helps me pick out a grouping. Buying in 2's or 3's is ever so stylish.

The second best part of  my annual visit to NYC is waiting for a very special box to come a week or so later. Yay!

Please great the triplets ... Hirschberg German hooped glass vases -- sometimes refereed to as baluster vases.

I can't tell you much about the manufacturer. Internet searches come up pretty much empty. Not a lot of listings on Etsy or eBay or Pinterest for that matter. But they are out there.

And these are vases, not candlestick holders as mistakenly identified a few places.

I like the colors and the shapes. Super sixties. Screaming sixties for that matter. I stuck 'em on the shelves with their other adopted brothers and sisters from The End of History.

And one more The End of History souvenir on a Target tray -- made in Italy in the 60s by Mancioli for Raymor. I love theses shapes.

My friend calls our trips to New York City "our pretend life." And why not?

  2. I need a pretend life! And all the pretty glass that goes with it. HA HA! These are fabulous!
That glass shop is amazing but would make me so nervous. I'd be the first one to back into a table and knock them all over. AHHHH! Those Mancioli pieces on the tray make me happy.

  3. "our pretend life." And why not? Why not, indeed. It's like the line to that song: "Pack up all your cares and woes... from "Bye, Bye Birdie (I think)
